PART 1 GENERAL

1.2 RELATED SECTIONS

If piping is to be installed in this project, this section MUST be accompanied by a section that specifies the piping installation. The only part of the piping installation that is included in this section is the actual hanger fitting that encircles the pipe and is attached to the wall or ceiling -- coordinate the piping specification.

1.5 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING
A. Store materials in areas where temperature will be maintained above 35 degrees F.
B. Protect from exposure to direct sunlight.
C. Stack or store in such a manner to prevent distortion of shape.
1.6 WARRANTY
A. Provide manufacturer's 10 year material warranty.
PART 2 PRODUCTS
2.1 MANUFACTURERS

2.2 MATERIALS
A. Piping Cover System: Modular, snap-fit cover units, clips, and anchors, which once assembled, render the cover essentially irremovable with the use of ordinary tools; UL listed for use with CPVC piping systems.
B. Cover Units: L-shaped and U-shaped cross-section units of flame retardant resin material, paintable finish.
1. Resin: B.F. Goodrich Co. "TempRite."
2. Surface burning characteristics when tested in accordance with ASTM E 84:
a. Flame spread: 20.
b. Smoke developed: 250.
3. Unit length: 7.5 feet.
4. Provide coupling fittings for joining units end to end and prefabricated inside and outside corner fittings and end caps.
NOTE ** Delete the following paragraph if no sidewall sprinkler installations are included.
5. Provide sidewall sprinkler head housing accommodating NFPA 13 4-inch drop assembly requirements.
6. Provide mounting clips to secure covers to wall/ceiling.
C. Pipe Hangers for CPVC Piping: Manufactured by cover system manufacturer; UL listed; requiring no special tools for installation.
1. For supporting piping only: "Snap-2" hangers.
2. For supporting both piping and covers: "Combo" hangers that automatically position pipe in cover.
D. Pipe Hangers for Copper and Steel Piping: Design and dimensions compatible with cover system; UL listed.
NOTE ** Delete the following paragraph if the covers are to be left unpainted or if painting is to be done by some entity other than the installer of the covers. In the latter case, specify painting in Division 9.
E. Paint: Acrylic latex; color to match adjoining surfaces.
PART 3 EXECUTION
3.1 INSTALLATION
A. Install in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions and recommendations.
NOTE ** Delete the following paragraph if the covers are being installed on existing piping. Otherwise, coordinate the section number and title with the actual section where the piping installation is specified.
B. See Section 13980 - Fire Protection Piping for requirements for installation of piping. Space hangers supporting piping in accordance with applicable requirements.
C. Space hangers and mounting clips supporting covers to hold the covers and fittings firmly against the mounting surface without gaps or unpleasant appearance.
D. Install cover units using coupling fittings and corner units as required.
NOTE ** Delete the following paragraph if the covers are to be left unpainted or if painting is to be done by some entity other than the installer of the covers. In the latter case, specify painting in Division 9.
E. Paint entire cover assembly. Cover sprinkler heads carefully during painting and remove covering completely immediately after painting.
